So its official, our central government through its spokesperson has confirmed that Valentine’s Day has to be celebrated in our country with all pomp and gaiety that is otherwise reserved for traditional festivities.
So I set out to interview the lady for my blog. She was on her way to Bangalore where she has apparently promised to celebrate this important festival with Bangalore’s youth at the pubs. Not wanting to waste any time I went straight to the point.
Me: So what is so important about Valentine’s Day in our country Madam Minister (MM), given that there are so many other issues that we are confronted with ?
MM: Are you married?
Me: Is this more important than other pressing matters for you to fly down for these celebrations?
MM: Do you know when the elections are being held?
Me: How does it help for a certain newspaper to publish Valentine’s day disruption headlines for the last one week?
MM: What do you know about media salesmanship?
Me: So is Valentine’s Day also going to be promoted as a very important festival for rural India in the future?
MM: Do you understand anything at all about women’s upliftment and rights?
Me: Isn’t it an accepted fact that this day is nothing but a creation of the western retail capitalism mindset to sell billions of dollars or rupees worth of cards, paper hearts and gifts that many girls actually don’t like in the end?
MM: Don’t you know that the world and our country too is facing a recession?
Me: I believe the government is planning to declare this day as a public holiday is that true?
MM: Do you know the savings in electricity consumption on public holidays?
Me:Would you also be planning to be in Bangalore for Rose Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day that follow?
MM: If the pubs are open why not?
